Stained Glass Cross
A stained glass cross is something any Christian would love having in his/her room. A stained glass cross is something especially children would enjoy having in their rooms. Making a stained glass cross can be a great activity for children but is occasionally enjoyed by many adults also. By making a stained glass cross, you can hang it in your room or even gift it to a special friend.
The materials you will require to make a stained glass cross are waxed paper, wax crayons, an iron along with an ironing board and some scrap pieces of paper, a manual pencil sharpener, scissors, a glue stick and some construction paper.
To begin making your stained glass cross, firstly you need to plug in your iron and cover your ironing board with scrap pieces of paper. You need to set the iron to medium without any steam. Next, tear a square piece of waxed paper and fold it in half. Then unfold it again. You will get a crease on your waxed paper.
Take your wax crayons and sharpen them in your pencil sharpener. Do ensure that your pencil sharpener has a large hole in order to make sharpening your wax crayon easily. Let the shavings from the wax crayon drop onto half of the waxed paper. You can even use 3 to 4 different colors to make your stained glass cross brighter. Next what you need to do it iron the paper on which you have let the wax shavings drop. Fold about half an inch around all the edges of the paper so none of the wax leaks out when you iron the paper.
Place the waxed paper which contains the shavings, down on the ironing board and cover it with more pieces of scrap paper. Iron for about 10 seconds and make sure all the wax has melted before remove the paper. The more you iron the paper the more the colors from the wax crayon shavings will mix. Make sure you let it cool for at least 1 minute.
The next thing you need to do is take a piece of regular, construction paper and fold it in half and make sure it creases well. Fold it in half again but do not crease it a lot this time. Using the crease as a guideline cut out a half cross shape. Then unfold the construction paper and you will come up with a card type shape with a heart in the middle.
Next put your waxed paper (stained glass) in the middle and decide on where you are going to position it. Using a pen, trace around a line for where you will want to trim the waxed paper. Then, cut out the waxed paper. Do not fold the paper much as the wax will crack if you do. Open up the construction paper and using a glue stick trace around the heart shape on any one side of the construction paper and glue the waxed paper down. Trace glue on the other heart as well on the other side of the construction paper as well as around the edges of the construction paper and fold the waxed paper down so that it becomes sandwiched.
Hope you enjoy your very own stained glass cross!
